Marketing, simply put, is the ability to find people who have a genuine interested or need in your product and your product or service solves that inner need or desire.

If you where to walked into a room and asked "who's hungry?", the people who raised there hands would be your interested individuals. If you were then able to either provide actual food, or at least direct them to someone who could make the food and fulfill their desire then you were just an effective marketer.

Seems pretty easy right? Now what's different with internet marketing?

Internet marketing refers to the generally promotion of products or services over the Internet. Internet marketing ties together the creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including design, development, advertising and sales all of which is done over a virtual space.

The end result of internet marketing should be to acquire leads and generating customers, therefore it also includes placement of media along many different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), banner ads on specific websites, email marketing, mobile advertising, and Web 2.0 strategies.

 

Types of Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing is broadly divided into the following types:

  • Pay per click/impression (PPC/I ): Advertisements for brands and products is done on pre-decided websites and helps in generating leads for companies.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page to reach End-user through search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results.
  • Display Advertising is the use of web banners or banner ads placed on a third-party website to drive traffic to a company's website to promote  and increase product awareness.
  • Social media marketing (SMM) is a process used to promote news/ information regarding organizational and individual businesses through social media channels which helps customers connect directly to owners/CEOs to build good customer relationship management and for better online reputation management.
  • Email Marketing involves directly marketing a commercial message to a group of people using electronic mail.
  • Referral Marketing is a method of promoting products or services to new customers through referrals, usually word of mouth.
  • Affiliate Marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's own marketing efforts.
  • Content Marketing involves creating content which is freely shared as a means of converting prospects into customers and customers into repeat buyers.
